Developing Professional Emotional Intelligence

In times of extraordinary societal change, the most sought after leaders are focused on understanding the triggers of, recognizing the impact of, and what they can do to improve their and others’ emotional intelligence (EQ). Do you pause and think critically about the potential consequences of your behavior or words? Are you grateful for the constructive feedback others offer you? In what ways are you authentically sharing your leadership brand? In this presentation, Michael will define and provide client examples of each of the five dimensions of EQ – self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, social awareness, and social regulation – and share daily practices you can use to intentionally develop in each. As you ascend in your career, your IQ becomes less important than your EQ, your ability to influence, and your ability to get teams to accomplish big goals.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze decades of emotional intelligence research and the impact of emotional contagion.
• Explain how the brain is hard-wired to think irrationally first, rationally second.
• Formulate an action plan for improving one or more of the five dimensions of EQ.
• Evaluate lessons learned from Michael’s clients’ stories of building high EQ levels.
• Create frameworks for coaching and mentoring those around you who desire to be better leaders.
