Edgar Olivo deeply understands the power of education. His company, Compass CBS, is built upon the ethos that continual learning is often a ticket out of challenging economic circumstances. Edgar comes from a big family. He has 10 siblings. His mom was the oldest of 16 siblings and his dad was was the youngest of 10. Neither of his parents finished high school and language barriers often prevented them from landing meaningful work that could support their growing family. Edgar received the nickname “Rancher Ed” because his family moved to and managed a farm in rural Maricopa in his formative years.

After working for nine years at Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort, on 11.11.11, he launched Compass CBS. Edgar started career coaching, then formed partnerships with economic development entities, then taught bilingual classes that ultimately impacted 16,000+ entrepreneurs across Phoenix. In this podcast, hear his stories about how he serves corporate clients, how he builds an employee’s emotional intelligence and customer service skills, and how he motivates teams to be excited to go to work. Edgar is clearly a product of his own product. He’s an educator… and he may not have made it out of economically challenging situation if it wasn’t for the education, mentorship, and coaching he received early in his career.

In 2012, Mayor Greg Stanton honored Edgar with the Key to the City of Phoenix for his work on the H.E.R.O. Veterans Initiative and is the recipient of the 2015 Hispanic Business Salute Award bestowed by Telemundo Arizona and Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In 2016, he was recognized by the EVHCC with the Community Leader Award and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recognized his company at their National Annual Convention. Needless to say, his impact on metro Phoenix has been felt.
